I’d like to think these two are having a pretty grand reunion in heaven this week. My dad passed away Saturday morning, and today marks two years since we lost Jack. Two years. How can it feel like yesterday and, at the same time, like I’ve lived an entire lifetime without him? Last night, Jack’s friends came over for dinner to remember and celebrate him, and I’m kicking myself for not taking a single picture. It means more to me than I can ever really explain that these young men still keep in touch. They stop by and drive Jack’s SIM racer, call me when they’re thinking about him just to let me know he hasn’t been forgotten, and still let me hug them every time I see them. They are such an incredible group of boys… ahem, men. And I love them for continuing to carry Jack with them. My dad was someone I always looked up to. He put his family first and was constantly looking for ways to help all of us. He loved a good party and having people over—which must be where I get it from. He always had a joke ready and was happy to tell it to anyone and everyone who would listen. Over the past few years, his health made it harder and harder for him to get out. I know how much he missed going to his grandkids’ games and events, but he loved when all of us would cram into their little home in American Fork every second Sunday for “Bronson Sunday.” Those Sundays became such a special part of our family. I can just picture Jack welcoming Grandpa with a huge hug and then handing him an ice-cold Coke. They were both serious Coke lovers. And I’m pretty sure McKenna was right there too, bossing both of them around and showing them how things are done since she’s had a little more time in heaven than either of them. I miss my dad. And I miss Jack and McKenna more than I have words for. But through all of that missing, I am so grateful for the knowledge and faith that this isn’t the end. That I will see them again. That there will be hugs and laughter and stories and, most of all, the chance to pick right back up where I left off being their Mama. Until then, I hope heaven is feeling a little more like a Bronson Sunday this week. ❤️
